WVU Men’s Soccer will host the George Mason Patriots on Monday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. These two teams played each other in 2025, making this matchup a refreshing test to demonstrate what these two programs have on the table.
WVU is coming off a cancelled match against the Akron Zips and a draw against a ranked UNC Greensboro. The Greensboro game highlighted fourth-year forward Pablo Pozos with the only score to help the Mountaineers get the tie.
The game against the Zips was ruled a no contest due to inclement weather in the 47th minute, with the Mountaineers trailing 1-0. The matchup has been voided, and the stats will not count for either program.
The Mountaineers offense is currently led by Pozos and second-year forward Julen Recalde. These two playmakers each have 1 goal so far this season; they are key pieces to making this unit productive.
Recalde is a transfer from WVU Tech. In his 2025 season at Tech, he recorded 16 goals with 3 assists in his 19 starts.
The Patriots' last game was a true test with Marshall. George Mason ended the game against the Sun Belt team with a 3-3 draw.
In this Marshall game, fifth-year midfielder Matias de Jesus recorded one goal and two assists to help the Patriots stay afloat. Their keeper, Angel Hernandez, left the game early, making Jack Desroches take over.
Another feature player of the Patriots is forward Jaime Gondinho. Gondinho was nominated as an A10 offensive player of the week for his outstanding performance with two goals against William and Mary.
U92 will provide live coverage with Conor Bratchford providing play-by-play commentary along with color analyst Aaron Pepling. Pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage will be hosted by Connor Roberts, joined by Kam Tomasetti and Anthony Ritchie.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Stadium. Fans can listen in on WWVU 91.7FM or online at u92themoose.com.
