West Virginia enters this game after a narrow 31-24 win over Coastal Carolina last week. The Mountaineers led 24-0 at halftime.
The Chanticleers were on the cusp of completing a miraculous comeback from a 24-point deficit behind a stellar second-half performance from quarterback Deuce Bailey, but West Virginia slammed the door shut with a massive rushing touchdown in the closing moments.
Transfer fourth-year running back Cam Cook led the way on the ground, tallying 142 rushing yards on 30 attempts with two trips to the end zone. These stats helped him on his way to earning Big-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Third-year quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. also turned some heads, racking up 100+ yards passing and rushing on the day and finding the end zone twice. Hawkins also scored a pivotal rushing touchdown to give the Mountaineers a cushion, solidifying their win.
The Skyhawks travel to Morgantown fresh off a 42-7 win against Chicago State, in which their offense nearly eclipsed the 500-yard mark.
Running back Tommy Ansley took the bulk of the reps for this offense, totaling 118 yards on 16 carries. Ansley racked up three touchdowns on the ground as well.
Ansley split carries with Chris Franklin, who managed 72 yards and two scores on 14 attempts.
