Mountaineers Looking to Shake Off Losing Streak Against In-State Rival Marshall

On Wednesday, West Virginia will look to get back into the win column after losing two straight against Ohio State.

West Virginia currently has a record of 11-9 on the season.

West Virginia is coming off Sunday’s game where they allowed 26 runs against the Buckeyes.

The Mountaineer’s pitching needs to not allow as many runs if they want to beat Marshall for the second time this season.

Marshall is currently on a four game losing streak with their last win coming against Southeast Missouri State on March 10.

Marshall currently has a 6-13 record and have not won a road game this season.

These two teams have met before with West Virginia winning 11-2 in Charleston back on March 12.

West Virginia is led by one of the top MLB prospects, infielder JJ Wetherholt, who has only played four games this year due to a hamstring injury.

Wetherholt is currently batting a .308 and has four hits on 13 at bats.

Marshall is led by outfielder Calin Smith, who is currently batting a .288.

West Virginia will be sending out right-handed pitcher Gavin Van Kempen on the mound for his second start of the season.

Van Kempen has a record of 3-1 in the six appearances he has this season and currently has a 4.22 earned run average.

Pitching for the Thundering Herd will be right handed pitcher Chad Heiner. Heiner has a record of 1-2 this season in his four appearances for Marshall.

U92 will be broadcasting the game with the first pitch set for 3:30 PM. Tannor Enyart will be on play by play with Quinn Robie on color. The U92 broadcast can be heard on 91.7 FM locally, u92themoose.com, an Alexa At-Home Device, or the RadioFX and TuneIn apps.
