Mountaineer Women’s Basketball prepares for test versus Yellow Jackets

Looking to keep on track, the West Virginia Mountaineers will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Hope Coliseum. West Virginia commanded a 109-40 win against Texas Southern.

The game against the Tigers featured senior guard Jordan Harrison. Harrison took the podium with 27 points, going 5-of-10 on field goals and 5-of-5 on free throws.

The Mountaineers rely deeply on free throws. WVU leads the nation in free throw attempts, averaging around 30 points per game.

WVU is led by junior guard Gia Cooke, she leads the team with 16 points per game. There have been multiple games where four or more Mountaineers have recorded double digits.

West Virginia’s defense sustains an average of 24 turnovers per game, making them the 12th best nationally. Marc Kellogg's defense is a full court press, which pressures opposing guards from tipoff to the final buzzer.

Georgia Tech will be meeting the Mountaineers for the fourth time in history, showing West Virginia has been dominant, being 2-1 against the Yellow Jackets. All three of the previous meetings have come from neutral sites.

The Yellow Jackets are heading to Morgantown following a 72-57 win to Norfolk State. This game featured senior guard Catherine Alben, leading the team with 20 points.

Karen Blair is in her first year as the Yellow Jackets head coach. Blair spent her last seven seasons at Maryland as associate head coach, helping the Terrapins to three Big Ten titles.
