No. 20 WVU Women's Basketball to Host Iowa State

Morgantown W.Va- The no. 20 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers will host Big 12 conference opponent Iowa State at the Coliseum on Saturday Jan. 19, 2025.

Last Wednesday, the Mountaineers shared the court with the Colorado Buffaloes for the second time ever in school history. The record between the two squads is now 1-1 thanks to a dominant 73-46 victory, which brings their record to 4-2 in conference and 14-3 on the season.

Head Coach Mark Kellogg’s team had an interesting start to the game against the Buffs. Kellogg said his team “couldn’t find an offensive flow…there early” and the team “couldn’t make shots in the first quarter.” However as the game progressed “we got considerably better” as the shots began to fall.

Senior JJ Quinerly and Junior Sydney Shaw both lead the team in scoring with 19 points. The senior, Quinerly, would have six steals on the game putting her in first place for most steals in the Big 12.

Looking at the visiting Cyclones, they are led by Head Coach Bill Fennelly who is coming into his 30th year at ISU. Fresh off a big 71-58 win over the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on Tuesday, Fennely’s team is coming into this matchup 13-6 on the year.

Sophomore sensation, Audi Crooks, leads the Big 12 in scoring and points per game with 430 points on the year and 22.6 points per game respectively. The Iowa native led the way against the Red Raiders dropping 28 points and nine rebounds.

The last time these two squads met, West Virginia got a close win 84-78 on Jan. 27, 2024. Quinerly and company look to extend their win streak over the Cyclones to two wins.
