The West Virginia Mountaineers (18-12, 9-10) are set to host the UCF Knights (15-14, 6-12) in Morgantown on Saturday.
The Mountaineers are coming fresh off of a road trip to Salt Lake City, where they completed their regular-season sweep of the Utah Utes in dramatic fashion. Utah Guard Gabe Madsen missed what would have been a go-ahead three pointer as the game clock hit zeroes as Darian DeVries’ men held on to win 71-69.
Javon Small led the way for this West Virginia squad behind a valiant 18-point performance, also tacking on seven assists and leading the team in minutes with 37. The Mountaineer offense spread the wealth when it came to scoring as well, with Joseph Yesufu, Amani Hansberry and Jonathan Powell all achieving double-digit scoring numbers on the night.
The Knights’ last game ended in an emphatic 83-70 win over Oklahoma State. Senior Guard Darius Johnson lit up the scoresheet with a season-high 36 points on 56% shooting.
Johnson has been the engine of this UCF offense down the stretch, averaging 16 points per game and just over four assists per game. Paired alongside Johnson is the Knights’ leading scorer in Guard Keyshawn Hall, who has averaged just shy of 19 points and seven rebounds per game this season.
Saturday will mark the fourth time these programs have faced with West Virginia leading the matchup 2-1 all-time. The last time these programs faced was February of last year, with the Mountaineers winning 77-67 in Morgantown.
U92 will have live coverage of the game with Tanner Mountz on play-by-play commentary and Brian McQuillen as color analyst. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM and starting at 4:30 PM Andrew Hartlove will be hosting pregame, halftime and postgame coverage alongside Dom Brusco and DJ McDermott.
The broadcast can be heard locally on 91.7 FM, u92themoose.com, an Alexa At-Home Device, or the RadioFX and TuneIn apps.
