West Virginia to Play Pitt in the 107 Backyard Brawl

Morgantown, W.Va - The West Virginia Mountaineers are set to face off against arch rival Pitt Panthers for the 107 time on Saturday Sep. 14, 2024 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The last time these two teams brawled, Nicco Marchiol led the 1-1 Mountaineers to a 17-6 win over the Panthers in front of a sold out Mylan Puskar Stadium on Sep. 16, 2023.

The Mountaineers walk into Pittsburgh with a 1-1 record after a 49-14 win over the Albany Great Danes on Saturday. Head Coach Neal Brown was happy with the teams performance saying that the game was “a good win” and that the team was playing “much better football, cleaner football.”

The Panthers come into Saturday's game 2-0 after a close comeback win over the Cincinnati Bearcats 28-27. Head Coach Pat Narduzzi called the game a “gutsy win” and that his players “couldn’t be prouder after the effort they gave.”

The last time the Mountaineers and Panthers played in Pittsburgh was back on Sep. 1, 2022. Where the then ranked #17 Panthers snapped a three game winning streak for the Mountaineers in a 38-31 stunner.

From the home team's perspective this game is a bounce back opportunity. This game is an opportunity for the redshirt freshman Alabama transfer Eli Holstein and the Panthers to prove that they are worthy of being back into the top 25 like they were one year prior.

Narduzzi acknowledged Browns offense saying “he’s a scheme guy and he’ll challenge you on you know really all three phases of the game.”

For Neal Brown and his Mountaineers, this game is a chance to prolong a winning streak one more year. This matchup will be a great test for Garrett Greene and Co. to see how this group performs on the road and under the hostile environment that a rivalry such as this provides.
