Morgantown, W. Va.- The No. 15 WVU Women’s Basketball (2-0) will host the University of Pittsburgh Panthers (2-0) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 12 at the WVU Coliseum. The game will be Gold Rush themed for their Backyard Brawl Rivalry.
West Virginia is coming off victories against Towson University (85-41) on Tuesday and Niagara University (110-41) on Saturday. The Mountaineers moved up one spot in the AP Poll to No. 15 on Monday Nov. 11.
Pittsburgh defeated Canisius University (78-36) on Tuesday and Bucknell University (64-61) on Saturday.
West Virginia leads the nation in turnovers forced per game, averaging 38 turnovers a game.
The Mountaineers are ranked No. 12 in the nation in scoring defense, and first in the Big 12. They have held opponents at 41 points per game.
The WVU Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Mark Kellogg, said everyone on the team understands the Backyard Brawl rivalry and that it was enough motivation for the Mountaineers heading into the game on it's own.
“Everybody gets it. I mean, we've already had a football game too this year," He said. "You just don't have to motivate for those games as a coach, which I haven't had to do yet, because it's early in the season anyway.”
Junior guard, Jordan Harrison, leads the Mountaineers, averaging 22 points per game. She is ranked No. 17 in the nation in steals per game, averaging four and a half a game. Center Khadija Faye leads the Panthers in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game.
WVU defeated Pittsburgh last season (71-62) at Petersen Events Center. WVU leads the series all-time with a record of 29-19.
