WVU Men's Soccer to host UCF on Saturday

The West Virginia Mountaineers are set to take on the UCF Knights in a battle on the pitch, on Saturday October 5th.

The Mountaineers are coming off of a 1-0 victory over Bucknell in Lewisburg PA, an early goal was scored by Sergio Ors Navarro just a minute into the match off of a pass from Marcus Caldera. The 1-0 victory makes it 6 shutouts by Marc Bonnaire who had big shoes to fill in replacing Jackson Lee who graduated a year ago.

In the second half, Sam Nyenka had an opportunity to double the lead but missed on the opportunity. Simon Carlson had an opportunity to score from 50 yards out after the ball bounced over the keeper but the ball bounced over the goal.

West Virginia is currently ranked 7th in the United Soccer Coaches poll that came out Tuesday afternoon. West Virginia is currently 3rd in the sun belt standings behind Marshall and James Madison.

UCF is coming off of a 2-1 victory against Georgia State in Orlando FL. With that win UCF got their 3rd win of the season and their first win since Sept. 6th against UC Irvine, that snapped a three match winless drought while also bringing them to 6th in the Sun Belt conference standings.

The last time these 2 teams met, was in the regular season in 2023 where both teams tied 2-2 in Orlando, they had an opportunity to meet in the Sun Belt Tournament as well as the NCAA tournament but UCF was eliminated in the first round of both of those tournaments.
