MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia Mountaineers women's soccer team are set to take on the Robert Morris Colonials on Sunday, Sep. 1 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.
After a two game losing skid against Clemson and #12 Penn State, Nikki Izzo Brown’s Mountaineers looked for their first win since Aug. 18 where they scored five unanswered goals against Radford at home.
On Thursday's game against Penn State, West Virginia proved that they can control the pace of the game and created numerous scoring opportunities early on in the contest. The Nittany Lions drew first blood and the lead never changed.
PSU would score two goals in the first half and one more in the second, while WVU wouldn’t find the back of the net until the 90th minute of the game. A well placed corner kick from senior, Dilary Heredia-Beltran, would find junior, Ajanae Respass, where she would score her second goal of the season.
Looking into RMU, they entered Morgantown 1-2-1 on the season. Their last game they fell short against the Red Flash of Saint Francis 1-0. Juniors, Emerson Johngarlo and Paloma Swankler, are tied for most goals on the season, both with two goals.
Sunday’s game will mark the third ever meeting between these two squads. The last time the Colonials saw the Mountaineers was on Oct. 21, 1997 where Nikki Izzo Brown led her team to a 5-0 victory.
