The Appalachian State Mountaineers come to Morgantown, West Virginia, to take on the 4-0 West Virginia Mountaineers. The women’s basketball showdown is set for Nov. 20 at the brand-new Hope Coliseum, with an early tipoff scheduled for 10:15 a.m.
Mark Kellogg’s 2025 squad is off to an impressive 4-0 start, including three blowout wins. Their most recent and most impressive win came six days ago, when the Mountaineers took down then-No. 15 Duke at the Greenbrier Tipoff.
West Virginia, which entered the AP Top 25 for the first time this season at No. 23, spectacularly beat the Blue Devils. With only five players available and down three points entering the second half, the Mountaineers rallied for a 57-49 victory.
Star guard Jordan Harrison will be out for West Virginia, so the Mountaineers will need others to step up, including Sydney Shaw and Gia Cooke. Shaw has been the team’s leading scorer and rebounder so far this season and was also the hero at the Greenbrier, playing 38 of 40 minutes, scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds. With Harrison out, Cooke’s playmaking will need to be present, as she is the team’s second-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game. The Houston transfer can score, but she’ll also need to set up her teammates as the Mountaineers’ second option against App State.
App State enters at 3-1, with a pair of blowout wins. Its lone loss came to Davidson, 74-55. The Mountaineers bounced back Sunday with a comfortable 77-50 win over Wofford.
App State faces its toughest test yet, traveling to Morgantown to take on a nationally ranked opponent. To keep the game close, key players like Emma Smith and Jayden McBride will need to step up. Smith is averaging 11 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, leading the team in total rebounds and minutes played. McBride had a strong outing against Wofford, scoring 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range.
