The West Virginia Mountaineers go up against a ranked Kansas Jayhawks squad for some early Big 12 action in Morgantown.

The 11-4 (1-1) Kansas Jayhawks come to Morgantown, West Virginia, to take on the 10-5 (1-1) Mountaineers. This men’s basketball showdown is going to take place on January 10th at the Hope Coliseum, with tipoff expected to be at 12 p.m.

The Mountaineers are coming off their first two conference games, with those games resulting in a loss to No. 3 Iowa State and, most recently, their first conference win against Cincinnati this past Tuesday.

West Virginia has its second ranked matchup in eight days, with the No. 22-ranked Kansas Jayhawks coming to visit on Saturday. The Mountaineers will be looking to pull off the upset with the help of key players Honor Huff and Chance Moore.

Huff has been the leading scorer for the Mountaineers this season, averaging 17.1 points per game, primarily from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 41.4% from three-point range. He is also coming off a 24-point performance in the win against Cincinnati. Chance Moore has been a key piece for West Virginia recently, averaging 13 points per game in just nine games played. He led the Mountaineers with 17 points in the loss to Iowa State and added 14 points in the win over Cincinnati.

Kansas presents a tough challenge for the Mountaineers as the No. 22-ranked team in the country, bringing significant firepower to Morgantown. The Jayhawks are also 1-1 in conference play, with a loss to No. 25 UCF and an overtime win against TCU.

Projected No. 1 overall pick and top-three NBA prospect Darryn Peterson adds even more intrigue to this matchup. After missing three weeks with a hamstring injury, Peterson has returned dominantly, scoring 26 points in 23 minutes in the loss to UCF and pouring in 32 points in the overtime win against TCU. Tre White has also emerged as a strong second option, averaging 15 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, including a 22-point performance against TCU.
