WVU Baseball to Host Baylor in Three Game Series

On April 26th, The West Virginia Mountaineers will begin a three game set against the Baylor Bears at Kendrick Family Ballpark in Granville, West Virginia. The Mountaineers hold a 23-16 record overall with a 11-7 record in conference play. 

The Mountaineers are coming off of a series sweep at the hands of Texas Tech. Prior to that series the Mountaineers were 7 of their last 8 with the only loss being to Marshall in extra innings. 

The bats were very hot for the Mountaineers with Kyle West and Reed Chumley leading the pack with the two being at the top of the Mountaineer RBI tally this season. The Mountaineers have also gotten a boost from the recently returning JJ Wetherholt, who holds a .327 Batting Average with 16 Hits in 15 games played.

The Mountaineers pitching staff is currently led by Derek Clark who holds a 2.79 ERA in 7 starts. He has thrown 3 complete games so far this season with 4 games in a row going a full 9 innings.

The Baylor Bears are led by Manager Mitch Thompson, the 20th head coach in Baylor’s history being awarded the job in 2022. The Bears currently hold a 19-20 record with a 9-9 record in BIG12 play. 

The Bears are led by Redshirt Junior OF Enzo Apodaca who currently boasts a .349 Batting Average with 55 hits, 33 RBIs and 4 HRS in 39 games played as well as Junior OF Wesley Jordan who holds a .336 Batting Average with 41 Hits, 29 RBIs and 7 HRs in 36 games, 33 of which he has started. 

The Bears pitching staff is headed by Junior RHP Mason Marriott who currently holds a 4.17 ERA in 10 starts with a 3-3 record. In 49.2 IP he has given up 48 Hits, 27 Runs, 23 Earned Runs and 26 Walks with 54 Strikeouts.
