No. 18 West Virginia Women's Basketball welcomes the Kansas Jayhawks into the coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Mountaineers are coming off a marquee 54-37 win against the previously No. 24 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls last Saturday. The win moved West Virginia to 17-4 overall with a 7-3 conference record which ranks fifth in the Big 12.
The victory was backed by strong performances from guards Sydney Shaw, who had 18 points on 7-10 shooting from the field, and JJ Quinerly, who had 15 points and eight steals. Quinerly moved into the top ten in steals in Big 12 history and fourth in Mountaineer history after the win.
Decorated head coach Brandon Schneider and his Jayhawks will look to halt West Virginia's momentum with an upset victory and will need a big performance from sophomore guard S’Mya Nichols who averages 20.2 points per game and 4.9 assists per game.
Kansas will also look to be the first team this season to knock off the Mountaineers on its home court. The Coliseum has become a Fortress of Solitude for WVU and opposing coaches can feel the effect. In her postgame press conference, Cowgirls head coach Jacie Hoyt stated she told her girls it would have to spot WVU 10 points with them being in The Coliseum.
U92 will have live coverage of the game with Luke Blain on play-by-play commentary and sports director Cam Scott as color analyst. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM and starting at 6:30 PM Nico Caretto will be hosting pregame, halftime and postgame coverage with Brayden Laslo, RJ Rice and
John Dodaro. The broadcast can be heard locally on 91.7 FM, u92themoose.com, an Alexa At-Home Device, or the RadioFX and TuneIn apps.
