MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- U-92 will host their third radio presentation of the Backyard Brawl on Saturday, Sept. 13, for the finale of a four-game series between the Pitt Panthers and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The last time these two rivals met was at the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on Sept. 14, 2024, the Panthers bested the Mountaineers 38-34 in that matchup.
In the 108th edition of the Backyard Brawl, West Virginia entered the matchup coming off a disappointing loss to Ohio University, moving them to 1-1 on the year. Head Coach Rich Rodriguez commented after the game, saying, “It starts with me.”
The Panthers come into the contest 2-0 after a 45-17 win over Central Michigan in week two. Head Coach Pat Narduzzi returns at the helm of the Panthers for the tenth time and is looking for the program's first win in Morgantown since the last time Rich Rodriguez was head coach on Dec. 1, 2007.
Pitt looks to use the arm of R-Sophomore quarterback Eli Holstein, who went 21/28 for 304 yards and 4 touchdowns against Central Michigan, to beat the Mountaineers twice in a row for the first time since 2008.
WVU is aiming to recover quickly after the team lost two valued players to injury against Ohio. The Mountaineers are now led by Sophomore wide receiver Cam Vaughn, who averages 19 yards per carry, and Junior quarterback Nicco Marchiol, who assisted in West Virginia’s last win against Pitt in 2023.
U-92 will broadcast the 108 Backyard Brawl on 91.7 FM on Saturday, spearheaded by Sports Director Quinn Robie on play-by-play. Robie is a Junior Sports and Adventure Media major from Hurricane, W. Va, and is entering his third football play-by-play broadcast.
Robie will be joined by the Sports Producer at U-92, Nico Caretto, a Junior Sports and Adventure Media Major from Cleveland, OH. Caretto is entering his third year at the student radio station.
Robie commented on the broadcast, saying, “We are excited to broadcast another chapter in this storied rivalry game between Pitt and West Virginia.
Sophomore Brett Burner will host pre-/half/post-game games. He will be joined by Sophomore Cody Burton and Juniors RJ Rice and Gabe Schon.
The Touchdown City Tailgate is U-92’s premier college football show and will start at 12:30 p.m. and will feature members of the sports staff as they bring analysis of week two’s matchups, national week three matchups, and a preview of the Backyard Brawl.
Live coverage will begin at 3:00 p.m., and the kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Broadcast can be heard locally on 91.7 FM, u92themoose.com, an Alexa At-Home Device, and the TuneIn app on your mobile device.
