West Virginia Black Bears Manager David Carpenter has taken a job in the Miami Marlins Organization. Carpenter was named the Manager of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Marlins AAA affiliate, on Tuesday, February 11th.
David Carpenter took over the reins of the manager position in 2023 after another former Mountaineer Jedd Gyrko was at the head.
Under Carpenter, the Black Bears went 81-66 as well as a MLB Draft League Championship in 2023. The Black Bears last season were in place for another championship berth but fell short in the final game.
The team led by Carpenter last season saw 5 players drafted in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Carpenter, a WVU alum, pitched in the MLB for 6 seasons for numerous teams, where he compiled a record of 11-11, played in 222 games, 3.69 ERA and 218 K’s in 214.2 IP.
U92 The Moose will broadcast every WV Black Bear home game this coming season. The season starts on June 4th with a f5-game road trip. Starting on June 10th, when the defending league champions, the Williamsport Crosscutters, come to Morgantown, they will start a 6-game home stand and face the State College Spikes.
