MORGANTOWN, W.Va –– The Mountaineers (20-5, 10-3) aim to extend their 3-game winning streak tomorrow against a UCF squad (10-13, 2-10) that has struggled thus far in Big 12 conference play.
West Virginia, fresh off a dominant 87-68 win against Arizona, boasts a strong resume as of late that includes a 70-60 win at home against a formerly ranked Baylor Bear team.
Defense and shooting from range were the catalysts for Mark Kellogg and his team, tallying 29 turnovers forced while shooting 43% from beyond the arc in the process.
WVU’s guard play showed out in a big way, with senior guard Jordan Harrison racking up eight steals and Sydney Shaw making four of her seven three-point attempts. Meme Wheeler shot well as well, boasting an 8-for-11 clip from the field and adding six rebounds to her stat line on the day.
Kellogg’s team started the contest making only two of their initial eight free throw attempts, but stayed on course and ended their day making their next seven of eight attempts from the charity stripe.
The Knights’ last game ended in disappointment, allowing 5 double-digit scorers in an 81-58 loss to Oklahoma State. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts ended with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
UCF head coach Sytia Messer entered her fourth season as the Knights’ head coach this year after joining the program from LSU after the 2021-22 season. Messer coached under former National Coach of the Year Kim Mulkey as an assistant in Baton Rouge and helped transition the Knights into their inaugural season in the Big 12.
